Items on the Blog

Thankful for the loan of an iPhone, yet somewhat disappointed that I could not conquer the Nokia, I jumped back on the wagon today. This took me into the heartland and beyond, only briefly and with a promise to come back.

Shida thawed me out with the smoothest, most subtle resurgence that I wondered if I had Post iPhone Loss Amnesia and had forgotten the old and familiar - but no they were new and they were amazing.

I continued to daydream about Fiber Femmes, primarily because I can't wait but selfishly too because I want them back on the street!

Even KD gets the Spruce

Since posting "Who Is Vandal Spruce" back in February my curiosity has deepened into a compulsion to find more. He has that affect on people.  There is a cheeky humour about the placement of his work and his choice of subject.  It's clever and it's drawn me in, and I am not alone.  This April KD Lang strolls past the skulls near Bimbo's in a  Getaway piece and the camera lingers on them.  Now in May Dean Sunshine has blogged what can only be described as a Vandal Bombing.  So here I am, back on the trail and turning down more streets than I mean to just to get a fix.  And here he is, this Vandal who is Sprucing up Fitzroy.
Check him in Flickr too

The Merry Month of May

The month of May inspires activism, pagan ritual, poetry, song lyrics, awesome street art, exhibitions and surface POP.   I will start with the much anticipated Fiber Femmes ... I am so excited I'm daydreaming about it:  Baby Guerilla, Be Free, Doctor, Fresh Chop, Kaff-eine, Precious Little and Suki Equally thrilling is that E.L.K. has a solo show this month "Look what you made me do".

Vandal has been Sprucing around Fitzroy, still making me smile like a fool and scramble for my camera/phone.  Great stuff along Brunswick street that won't last long so I will bring you more of that soon.

Nufevah is still RAD (trying to use popular vernacular - my preference is to tell you he is totally BULK ACE).  Check more out on the FYG website, which is totally awesome and thanks to whoever got me onto it.

Speaking of ACE s701a is  absolutely firing!  I am totally loving it.

Ruskidd is rocking, people are stringing up trees, and yes it is indeed the very Merry Month of May!

The tags on the strings below say "black"

This Spruce has stayed up longer than I thought it would - I took this shot a couple of days after it went up.

Left brain right brain

I am desperate to post and unfortunately all my familiar tools are gone. I have an old Blackberry and a new iPad. Apples and Oranges. My new pics are on my old Blackberry. My blogging App is on my iPad. I have no USB adaptor in my possession. I don't even know if that is what you call it, I made it up! Is this the moment that I declare defeat? How easy must things get for me to use them? How unfamiliar will each old piece be as I 'master' the new? Is anyone else this bad at it?

This Is Canberra

There was an autumn fog. The ABC clock read 8.38 am and 10 degrees. The navigator chick instructed us to turn right onto Limestone Avenue. The old parliment house was a mirror reflecting the sun and as we passed on Fairburn Ave the same sun lit spiders webs that had been spun and hidden through the night. Most importantly, I had returned to Lyneham to rephotograph images accidentally deleted yesterday. I am really glad they had been, or i would have missed this morning moment (and last nights paste ups).

Refuse, reduce, reuse, recycle

I LOVE the work done with the discarded...if a picture tells a thousand words then an object tells a thousand more . . .

Never met never parted

I confess that I am at once fatalistic and a sentimental fool. It's the unique result of being the child of a Glaswegian athiest and an Australian pragmatist. My father taught me Wordsworth and Burns (Wee Rabbie), about dwelling beside the springs. My mother taught me realism and flexibility, about living in the moment and getting on with it. So I navigate the transcience of street art with delight and wistful sorrow. It evolves exactly as it should, be it weathered, tagged or taken. It's magic when it does, but I long for what has been...

embrace imPerfectioN

"Have no fear of perfection, you'll never reach it" - Salvador Dali.  I had to google this, I didn't know it.  It turns out hundreds of people have hung a blog or an image on these lines, so I am certainly not breaking new ground either.  And so what?  Why strive to be the first, the best, the hottest? Dali and a thousand others with the same sentiment can't all be wrong.  Knowing I won't ever be perfect allows me to take photographs in bad light, with aim a bit off centre.  But thats cool because it also gives me permission to delight in fading images, torn or bleeding in the rain.  A paste up coming undone makes me want to touch it and draws me further into it.  I am not even gonna try to end this blog well.  I am just gonna hang the idea out to dry.  Bad metaphor and all.
